Who should use Lumoral?

Lumoral is suitable for all who are interested in improving their oral hygiene and enjoy the feeling of clean teeth. Lumoral is particularly good for those who have dental or gum problems despite good oral hygiene routines. The use of Lumoral prevents tartar and cavity formation and gum disease.

Why I should use Lumoral in addition to brushing?

Most dental diseases are caused by bacterial biofilm build-up, also known as dental plaque. Toothbrushing removes part of the biofilm but the residual biofilm left on teeth surface after brushing causes the dental diseases and tartar formation. Lumoral antibacterial effect eliminates this residual biofilm, reduces new biofilm formation and prevents dental disease development.

How often should I use Lumoral?

We recommend at least a twice-a-week routine. Lumoral antibacterial effect is potent and most often, a twice-a-week use routine is sufficient in preventing plaque build-up and the development of associated dental diseases.

What is Lumorinse?

Lumorinse is a green mouth rinse in the form of an effervescent tablet. When dissolved in water, it is ready to use. Light-sensitive colourant in Lumorinse, together with specific wavelengths of light from the mouthpiece, produces the antibacterial effect of Lumoral method.

How long should I use Lumoral before brushing?

Lumoral mouthpiece is set to administer light for 10 minutes. A twice-a-week regular use will keep your teeth clean and slows down plaque formation. During the application, you can relax, meditate, read, or watch your favourite series. If you fall asleep, don't worry - the device will turn itself off automatically.

Is it safe to use the Lumoral and Lumorinse?

Using Lumoral together with Lumorinse is an effective and proven method to prevent cavities and gum disease. Lumoral reduces the amount of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The essential function is based on photodynamic therapy, which has been extensively studied. Photodynamic reaction has many medical applications, and in dentistry, it is used to combat periodontitis and tooth decay. Lumoral is a TGA approved medical device.

Can I use Lumoral together with antibacterial mouth rinse (chlorhexidine)?

The Lumoral® method (Lumoral+Lumorinse) can be used together with chlorhexidine. This combination is a very effective antibacterial treatment, but please note that you can use chlorhexidine only for a maximum of two weeks at a time.

What is Photodynamic reaction?

Lumoral method is based on the photodynamic reaction. Photodynamic therapy is well known antibacterial method first discovered in the 1900s. Recently its use in dentistry has increased because it offers safe antibacterial action without negatively affecting the oral microbiome or risk of antibiotic resistance formation.

Photodynamic reaction requires

  • a light-sensitive molecule (Lumorinse)
  • a particular type of light (Lumoral light)
  • presence of oxygen

When photosensitizers are exposed to specific wavelengths of light, they produce a form of oxygen that eliminates targeted bacterial cells. The antibacterial action does not harm human cells as they can protect themselves from reactive oxygen with catalase enzyme.
